I grew up very near those woods. Back then--in the 1930's and 40's the park was much larger and undisturbed by buildings or other man-made structures. Also, there was the Harrisburg Zoo right in the middle of Wildwood Park. Owned and operated by the City of Harrisburg Park Department, it wasn't a major zoo in size but they did have Lions and many other wild animals including a monkey house that everyone enjoyed.
