    No Peeking!

    WriterKarin

As Christmas draws near, folks of all ages often feel the urge to peek under the tree, rattling packages, pressing the paper to see if any words or shapes are visible.  My 6-month old daughter has just started crawling and scooting around the house. Although she has no idea what Christmas really means, even she finds the cheery packages hard to resist. Just yesterday she scooted over to a bright red bag and tried to tip it over — hoping to catch a glimpse of what’s inside. (She was most disappointed when I re-routed her back to her blanket of toys!) Christmas surely is a wonderful time of year. As we celebrate Christ’s birth, we also enjoy family traditions like gift-giving, cookie baking, Christmas caroling, and visiting.

As a fundraiser, I enjoy the spirit of gift-giving all year long. Messiah Village is blessed to have a substantial group of faithful donors and volunteers who give in many ways. Without their support, we could not fulfill our mission of enhancing lives. During this most blessed holiday season, I’d like to say a special “thank you” to everyone who has supported Messiah Village during the past year. We are both humbled and delighted by your concern for our ministry.

May you and yours enjoy this Christmas season, realizing that our greatest gift is the gift found in Bethlehem’s manger.

Working with President’s Circle & Unveiling Christmas Video

    MVpresident

Last week I had the privilege of working with another great President’s Circle member – Kelly Herbster, Gift Development Assistant. Kelly is located in the Gift Development Office, but splits her duties between the Gift Development Office (GDO) and Marketing and Communication. Kelly is a key person in the GDO in that she welcomes guests, processes checks, maintains the donor/mailing list software and keeps things organized! For Marketing and Communication, Kelly is one of the main people who keeps our websites current. For example, while I was working with her she updated the Mount Joy Country Homes website. She also helps with our Facebook page. Thanks, Kelly, for sharing your interest in technology, design, and style with us! It is great that Kelly is willing to work for two departments and that the GDO is willing to share her time and expertise with others.

This week will be the launching of the 2nd annual Messiah Village Christmas video! It is another fun and exciting Christmas greeting produced by the Communications Team with Nate Shields being the main guy! Other members of the team include Kristen Heisey, Karin Bisbee, Kelly Herbster, Jamie Seilhamer and Kelli Murtoff. The video will be on the website after Thursday, December 16. Don’t miss seeing it!

    Connections Campaign Goal Surpassed!!!

    MVpresident

Today, Messiah Village is announcing a historic milestone to residents, staff, and the community at large.  The largest capital campaign in our history, Connections, has been completed and has exceeded its original $3.5 million goal by nearly $200,000.  The current total is $3,694, 481.

This campaign has been significant in three specific ways:

    • First – it is the largest campaign we have ever undertaken at Messiah Village. Never before have we raised this much money for a capital project.
    • Second – we experienced unprecedented staff participation.  Our employees contributed $143,150 and will have the Northside Entrance elevator named in your honor.
    • Finally, as you may recall, we received the largest gift in our history: $880,000 from the Norman T. Asper estate in January.

Each of these items is significant, but when you combine all three, it’s an amazing testimony to God’s providence and the hard work of many people.

A family member of a Special Care resident said, “the new addition will light up people’s lives, increase resident comfort, and provide much more happiness.” The Special Care renovations, along with the Chapel and new entrance project, are greatly needed and joyfully anticipated. We look forward to watching the progress with you!

Another interesting note — the portable peace garden has been temporarily relocated until the renovations are complete next year. The plantings are being cared for by staff and volunteers at Maintenance West. This garden was a gift from an anonymous donor who wanted to create a special place for people to gather, reflect, and pray. It was designed to be portable so that we could enjoy it before the construction. Once the project is completed, it will be moved back to its permanent home in front of the Chapel.

Have a great week and thank you for supporting Messiah Village!

    Holiday time at the Village

    NateTheTech

It is amazing to me everyday when I come into work in December how full the calendar is. Especially for me. I am at many (well, almost all)  of Messiah Village’s Christmas programs every year and it seems to me that they get better as the years tick on by. We just had the Sounds of the Season this past Sunday and what a difference from the 3 or 4 years ago when we first started the program.  It has gotten much more diverse and exciting.

The other big program that will be happening in a week from today, is the Live Nativity.  I forget how many years that we have done this program, but I think we finally got smart and have decided to move it inside.  After freezing our toes and fingers off lo these many years, we will officially bring it indoors to the Chapel (with the real deal donkeys, sheep and goats).

It is a busy time of year here at the Village, but I do look forward to it every year.

So what is your favorite Christmas Program??? What does your family do as part of the holiday tradition???
